Staff - Bernstein Center for Visual Performance

The staff of the Bernstein Center for Visual Performance is trained to diagnose and treat problems arising from visual performance shortfalls.  Located in White Plains, N.Y., the Center specializes in treating eye focusing, eye movement, eye coordination, and perceptual delay problems using vision therapy.  The Center also treats Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) and Strabismus (Cross Eye, Wall Eye).  We also provide vision therapy for stroke and TBI patients, people with computer vision syndrome, and athletes who wish to enhance their sports performance.

Dr. Paul is a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.  He specializes in behavioral and developmental optometry and Optometric Vision Therapy.  He founded the Bernstein Center for Visual Performance in 2000 to emphasize the importance that Comprehensive Visual Exams and Vision Therapy have to develop effective reading, writing, and learning experiences.  His passion is helping people perform to their fullest innate potential in school, sports, business, and life in general through improved visual function.  Dr. Ira Bernstein, O.D., Founder of Family Vision Care Associates

Dr. Ira founded our sister practice, Family Vision Care Associates, in 1960.  He is also a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development as well as being a Fellow of both the American Academy of Optometry and the New York Academy of Optometry.  In addition to his general optometry practice, Dr. Ira is a pioneering specialist in Optometric Vision Therapy.  He has spent more than 4 decades both practicing and teaching optometry and vision therapy (learn more about Dr. Ira)

Barbara Herlihy, Practice Manager

Barbara Herlihy, Practice Manager

Barbara joined the Bernstein Center in 1999 and serves as our general administrator.  Barbara helps to educate patients/parents about vision therapy and the services provided by the Bernstein Center for Visual Performance.  She works with patients and families to coordinate appointments for vision development analysis, and vision therapy sessions. Barbara is also an insurance resource - assisting patients/parents in how to apply for insurance reimbursement.

Milcah attended SUNY Cortlandt and has been working as a vision therapist since joining the partice in January 2007.  Her favorite part of Vision Therapy? "...the point in VT when you see the kids change - their attitudes get more positive - and they really begin to believe they can grow!"

 

Christina Casarella, Vision Therapist

Christina has a Master's Degree in Special Education and Childhood Education - and enjoys applying her training to the patients in vision therapy.  "What I like most about Vision Therapy is seeing the difference in people when their visual skills improve - not only do their reading/writing skills improve - their self confidence does as well".
