INSURANCE FAQ's:

What Will My Insurance Company Cover?

Many insurance policies do offer some coverage for Vision Therapy services. While most insurance policies do not cover all of the costs, many do pay a portion of the cost.  We will provide you with diagnosis and procedure codes at the completion of the initial evaluation for you to give to your insurance company in order to obtain an estimate of coverage, and explain how to submit them.

How will my insurance claims be filed?

You are responsible for filing all insurance claims. The Bernstein Center will supply you with a billing statement that includes industry accepted procedure and diagnosis codes and show you how to submit these to your insurance company.  We are also familiar with most insurance plans and managed care programs and will help you determine exactly what is covered when you schedule your appointment.

Is the Bernstein Center an In Network or Out of Network Provider?

The Bernstein Center for Visual Performance is an out of network provider for all insurance programs. Out-of-Network coverage is often reimbursed at a slightly higher rate than In-Network Coverage.  All correspondence with the insurance carrier is to be handled by the insured.  The Center provides our patients with all reasonable documentation that might be required by an insurer.

What Should I do if my claim is denied?

Some insurance companies and managed care plans may deny or place severe limits on Vision Therapy services in order to cut costs.  As a consumer/patient/parent, you have the right to request a review of any claim or portion of a claim which has been denied.

For example, some insurance companies will deny Vision Therapy for the treatment of learning problems and learning disabilities (like dyslexia), citing these are outside of major medical coverage.  However, when the real cause of the problem is a diagnosed vision problem, the claim should be included and reimbursed.
